Excel Tip: BODMAS
BODMAS is an acronym that describes the order in which calculations are performed in Excel. It becomes relevant when a calculation combines a division or multiplication with a subtraction or addition.
Brackets Over Division Multiplication Addition Substraction
Excel performs division and multiplication before it performs addition and subtraction. However, anything placed in brackets is performed first.
For example:
10+5/5 = 11
(5 is divided by 5 first, the result of which is added to 10)
(10+5)/5= 3
(10 and 5 are added first, the result of which is divided by 5)
Excel Tip: Did you know that you can easily create a chart in Excel by following these easy steps.
- Click into the data that you want to use for your chart - it helps if this data does not contain blank rows or columns.
- Press the f11 key on keyboard
- You chart will appear on a separate sheet. You will probably need to add some titles and do a bit of formatting but this is a really quick way of creating a chart.
